Data Sources & Update Frequency

Full transparency on where every number on IPO Cracker comes from

Every data point on IPO Cracker is sourced from publicly available, official sources. We do not buy data from private vendors and we do not receive privileged information from any company, registrar, or intermediary. This page documents exactly where each piece of data originates and how often it refreshes, so you can independently verify anything we publish.

Primary Data Sources

1. Stock Exchanges — BSE & NSE

The Bombay Stock Exchange (bseindia.com) and the National Stock Exchange (nseindia.com) are the authoritative sources for IPO data. We pull the following directly from their public-facing platforms:

  • Live subscription data — category-wise oversubscription multiples (QIB, NII, Retail, Employee) for every open IPO, refreshed multiple times per hour during bidding hours.
  • Anchor allocation disclosures — published by exchanges the evening before each IPO opens.
  • Basis of allotment — published once allotment is finalised by the registrar.
  • Listing notifications & opening price — captured on each IPO's listing day.

2. SEBI Filings

The Securities and Exchange Board of India (sebi.gov.in) publishes the official Draft Red Herring Prospectus (DRHP) and Red Herring Prospectus (RHP) for every IPO. These documents are the source of truth for:

  • Issue size, price band, lot size, fresh issue vs OFS split
  • Company financials (3-year audited statements) used in our financial analysis
  • Industry peer data and post-issue P/E calculations
  • Promoter holding, anchor lock-in periods, use of proceeds

RHP financial data is the most important non-realtime input to our scoring engine. Updated whenever a new RHP is filed.

3. Grey Market Premium (GMP)

GMP is by definition unofficial — it represents the premium at which IPO shares trade in the grey market before listing. There is no government or exchange-recognised feed for this. We aggregate GMP quotes from publicly available IPO trackers (Chittorgarh, IPOWatch, and similar industry sources). GMP is refreshed multiple times per day for active IPOs.

Because GMP is unofficial, two trackers can publish slightly different numbers on the same day. Where sources disagree, we use the value with the strongest underlying liquidity signal. GMP should always be treated as directional, not exact.

4. Registrars (for Allotment Status)

We do not host allotment data on IPO Cracker. When users want to check allotment status, we redirect them to the official registrar portal for that specific IPO. Common registrars we link to:

This privacy-preserving design means your PAN, application number, or DP-Client ID is entered directly on the registrar's site and never reaches our servers.

5. News Aggregation

News headlines and brief summaries on the news section are aggregated from publicly available financial publications (LiveMint, Business Standard, and similar sources). We link to the original publisher for the full article and do not republish the original text in full.

Verification Process

Before any data point goes live on a public IPO page, our pipeline:

  1. Pulls from the official source via documented APIs or RSS feeds.
  2. Validates against schema — required fields present, numeric ranges sane (e.g., subscription multiples ≥ 0).
  3. Cross-checks where possible — for example, total subscription = sum of category subscriptions weighted by category quotas.
  4. Logs the source URL on the record, so any value can be traced back to the original publication.
  5. Flags anomalies — sudden GMP swings, missing fields, source unreachable — for manual review before display.

What We Do Not Provide

  • Real-time stock prices post-listing — once an IPO lists, refer to BSE/NSE/your broker for live price.
  • Insider information — we have no relationship with any IPO issuer, lead manager, or registrar that gives us privileged access.
  • Personalised advice — recommendations are algorithmic and uniform across all IPOs.

Reporting Data Errors

If you spot an error on any IPO page — wrong date, stale GMP, mismatched registrar, peer data that doesn't match the RHP — please email us at alerts@ipocracker.com with the IPO name and the specific field. We aim to investigate within 48 hours and publish corrections on the affected page. Our full correction policy is documented in our Editorial Policy.
