The allotment basis is determined by oversubscription levels in each category — Retail, NII, QIB, and Employee — and is published as a "Basis of Allotment" document on the registrar's website.
For oversubscribed Retail categories, allotment is done by lottery on a per-application basis at the minimum lot size. NII allotment uses proportionate basis. Once finalized, allotted shares are credited to your Demat account 1 working day before listing (T−1), and any unallotted ASBA / UPI funds are released back to your bank account within 1–2 working days.
